Top tips on how to look after your skin

Looking after your skin is no easy task. Everyone dreams of glowing and flawless skin, but this is hard to achieve and maintain. There is a plethora of new products on the shelf, and it is very difficult to know what will work for you and which products you should continue to buy.

Figuring out a skincare routine that suits you is essential. Everyone knows the basics about drinking water, getting enough sleep, and washing your face but what else can you do?

Here is a little bit of advice for you if you are looking to change your regime.

Eating healthily

A healthy diet will not only help you feel good but look good too. Make sure to eat plenty of fruit and vegetables alongside whole grains and lean proteins. There has been an association between diet and acne. It has been suggested that a diet rich in fish oil and low in fats can promote younger skin.

However, having a bad diet can lead to worse problems than aged skin. It can also lead to cracked lips and cantankerous sores; more on the latter can be found here. Make sure that you are getting all of the vitamins you need from your diet.

Protect yourself from the sun

The sun is one of the most damaging tools against your skin. Sun exposure will cause wrinkles, tired skin, and age spots. It may also lead to an increase in the risk of skin cancer. In order to prevent this, you should think about using sunscreen of at least SPF 15. When you apply it, you should apply it generously and reapply every two hours especially when swimming and perspiring.

Also, seek shade during the hottest parts of the day. As well as this, you should wear protective clothing. This will help keep your skin clean and young looking.

Avoid smoking

Smoking makes your skin wrinkle and look older. It narrows the blood vessels in the layers of sin and decreases the blood flow. This will make your skin paler and deplete the skin’s oxygen levels. Not only this but smoking will damage the collagen and elastin fibers that give your skin its elasticity. All of this is not even mentioning the risk of cancer in the lungs. Quitting smoking is hard but it will make your skin look better.

Be gentle with your skin

Your skin goes through a lot on a daily basis. Due to this, you should be gentle with it when you get home in the evening. You should limit your bath time and exposure to hot water. Warm water is easier on the skin. You should look to avoid strong soaps that strip oil from your skin. After you wash, you should try and pat dry rather than scrub. It will help you maintain moisture in your skin.
