A handy clothing guide – Yoga for Beginners

We all love getting gear that will get us ready for the kind of training that we are about to do. If you were to joy the gym, you might end up spending hundreds of dollars on items that you might never end up wearing. That same thing goes with yoga; there appears to a standard set of what a yogi dresses like and the kind of equipment that they carry. We are here to make that process so much easier for you.

Off the bat, giving that this is a guide for beginners, it is clear to state that you don’t need any equipment. You might choose to get some weights and the like, but that only adds an extra barrier to your starting date if you are yet to begin the practice. Let’s then get into the kind of clothing you will need to have your first session.

Tops: with these, they have to be form fitting because you don’t want your t-shirt going over your head and exposing you when you do poses like the downward facing dog. Opt for light materials, and get an absorbent kind so that you at least don’t look like you go out of a sauna for your first day of yoga class. If you’re at home, get something that works, even a form fitting vest.

Bottoms (shorts or pants): you don’t have to go outside and get new ones. You can use those athletic breathable pants that you already have. You can equally reach for those solid colors yoga or jogging pants or shorts you like wearing around the house or for running small errands. If you don’t have any, purchase quality pants so that they last longer. Here there are no restrictions on how bright you can go. But if it’s not your thing, that is quite alright.  Remember to wear tights if your shorts are loose. You don’t want to make yourself and others around you feel awkward.

Sports bras: Yoga is exercise after all, and it requires ladies to wear a sports bra. The reason here is, of course, comfort and to keep everything together as you do the various poses.

Hair accessories: You will also need a hair tie and a headband if your hair is short from the barber shop, especially the men, to keep your hair out of your face for when you are practicing yoga.

Yoga socks: These are not necessary but are quite handy, but if you have an issue with perhaps sweating and you don’t want to slide off your yoga mat you can purchase socks with grips at the bottom. That you stay put during all poses, your usual socks won’t work.

Wrap up

If you’ve been putting off doing yoga because you feel that you don’t have the gear, then there are enough reasons for you to get started. As you are, even without a yoga mat, are good to go.
