How to Prepare For an Online Rehab Session

Online drug rehab is a great platform for anyone leading a busy life but wants to get sober. Things like work, taking care of kids and pets can hinder one from going to an inpatient rehab facility. You can participate in an online treatment at work, at home, or on the go. It is possible for one to feel anxious about online treatment, especially on the first day. And while that is completely normal, do not let the anxiety prevent you from getting the help you need. To help you manage, here are a few tips you can use.

Test Your Devices Before the Session

Because your session depends on technology, one of the first things you need to confirm is that all your devices are working well. Check that the technology you will be using for the session is working well and ready to go. Here are a few things to check;

  • Check the camera and the microphone of your device, ensuring it is picking up both video and audio.
  • If you intend to use a headset, confirm your device recognizes the external microphone.
  • Ensure your device is either fully charged or plugged into a socket.
  • Check that the device is connected to the internet and that the signal is strong and stable.
  • Switch off your other devices to prevent distractions.

If it is your first session, take time to familiarize yourself with the technology you will be using.

Find a Comfortable Space and a Conducive Environment

You need a distraction-free environment to follow what is going on. You do not have to renovate your room in preparation for this, but you can do a few things to ensure you are in a relaxed and comfortable space that is ideal for an online rehab session.

  • Pick a private room. If you stay with your spouse, kids, or roommate, you have to find a private and quiet space for the session. A private room allows you to focus on the treatment and share your thoughts freely without worrying that someone is intruding.
  • Get a comfortable chair. Note that you will be sitting the whole session unless the facilitator requests you to stand for an exercise. Since the periods can be lengthy, choose a comfortable chair that supports you even when sitting for extended periods. Check that the lighting is good as well, for the facilitator and peers to see you well.
  • Get accustomed to seeing yourself on the screen. If you are not used to video calls, turn on the camera and get used to seeing yourself. That way, you will not be distracted when you see yourself on the screen.

Prepare Questions or Topics You want to Discuss

You need to treat an online session the same way you would a face-to-face session. That means asking questions and participating actively. Just because this is an online session, does not mean you should treat it casually. You need to be intentional with your recovery, which means taking these sessions seriously. Note that it can be challenging for people to interpret your body language on a screen and so you need to be clear and descriptive.

Always Remember Why These Sessions are Important

A drug and alcohol journey is not smooth. And even when they are online, there are days when you just do not want to continue. This is common even for people in an inpatient facility. By getting help in rehab Alabama-located (https://impactrecoverycenter.net/), you show that you intend to break the cycle of addiction. Therefore, even when it feels like there are no changes, keep fighting.

You can still benefit from an online rehab session. You only need to put in the effort and be determined to get better.
