Medipeds CBD Oil for your Pets

Dave and I now live in Key West and are living a life that we have dreamed about for some time. With this comes the added benefit of taking care of ourselves both mentally and physically. Along with our puppy Paislee. This is the first in a four series of blog posts discussing CBD Oil for Dogs.

With having aging dogs in the past, suffering from arthritis and anxiety I wish in the early 2000’s I would have known about CBD oil for pets. We also had a cat that was 15 years old and could barely walk. After researching and speaking to a few friends that are using CBD oil for their dog’s anxiety from being an abandoned puppy, they have seen a remarkable difference in their furry friend. As with all new products that become available to us, there are always misconceptions and negativity. We are always excited to try a new product that has been receiving positive reviews.

I was excited to try this product on our newest addition to the family (Paislee). I now work outside of the home and have to leave Paislee at home all day, we wanted to help her calm down prior to my leaving the house. We thought let’s give CBD oil a try. Let’s look at some benefits and what CBD is.

What is Medipeds CBD Oil?

CBD oil is a compound found in cannabis and hemp. CBD in most case does not contain THC the compound that gives marijuana its psychoactive like properties. (Feeling High) Most CBD comes from hemp and not marijuana. CBD comes in pill form, oils and special treats for your pets. Usually, you will see it as an oil which you can take orally. This will not get your dog high. That is the last thing we are looking for! CBD will provide your dog with a calming feeling and will help them relieve pain without harming them with toxic ingredients.

How Does CBD Work?

Did you know humans and dogs have the same endogenous cannabinoid system? You may want to google that. CBD targets the receptors located in the brain, organs, immune cells, and the nervous system.

Benefits of CBD Oil for Dogs

You will find that the benefits of MediPets CBD oil are pretty great for your furry babies. As it is with humans there are many oils that are beneficial to us as well to treat many ailments. CBD is another oil. But let’s talk about our dogs for a moment and some of the benefits.

  • Seizures and Epilepsy – I read that high levels of CBD can help manage your pet’s seizures.   The dogs will respond to the cannabinoids similar the way we do, because of the endocannabinoid system we share with them.
  • Boosts appetite – When your dog is not eating it can cause some concern. I know our Morkie only eats when we are in the kitchen or living room area. For the most part, if your dog isn’t eating he may have a digestive issue. CBD can help alleviate this.
  • Anxiety – Probably the most common reason for using CBD is for treating anxiety in humans and your pets. In years past we would take our pets to the veterinary and we would get prescribed some sort of drug to treat our pets which could have many side effects, which you read on the label. This always frightened me. Now there is a natural alternative to treat our pets. Dogs with anxiety issues can start chewing on furniture, urinating, clawing on the windows or biting friends and neighbors. The CBD oil will calm them.
  • Some of the diseases which CBD can help your dog with are Cardiovascular disease, Autoimmune disease, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, and Neurodegenerative Disease.
  • Allergy relief – Just like humans dogs can suffer from food and seasonal allergies. We would bring our pets in and they would get prescribed Benadryl. This usually came with some sort of adverse reaction for our pets. Thus, just trying to get through the season. Now we can take a more natural approach to allergies with our pets by using CBD.
  • CBD can fight cancer – CBD and other substances in hemp and cannabis have been found to have an anti-inflammatory effect. CBD helps the immune system to ward off cancer cell growth and CBD blocks the ability for cancer cells to produce energy.
  • Relieves pain – Cannabinoids in CBD work wonders for pain. it decreases inflammation in the body which can lead to chronic pain.

CBD Oil For Pets

You can use CBD for cats as well. When we had our cat Sable I think using CBD would have made her final years a bit more pleasant. Having pets fall into old age, is a struggle to find the right supplements to help them with their aches and pains. I like the idea of using a plant base product for my Paislee.

How to Add CBD into Your Dogs Diet

There are many different ways you can add cannabis oil to your dog’s diet, they include:

  • Cannabis oil
  • Dog treats
  • Topically
  • Capsules
  • CBD tincture – Come in an easy to use droppers, and usually comes in different levels depending on your dog’s size.

How Long Does CBD Take to Work in Dogs?

The best way to administer CBD is underneath your dog or cats tongue. Capsule and treats need to pass through the digestive tract which can take close to an hour.

How Much CBD can I Give my Dog?

From researching it is recommended to give  1-5 mg CBD for every 10 pounds of body weight. Capsules can be opened and added to food and or water once you open them.

We will be doing three more posts about CBD and how useful it can be for our health as well. Dave and I get up every morning and work out, usually followed by joint pain and inflammation. When I take Paislee for longer walks, I know her little joints hurt too. This will be a good test as to how great CBD works on both canines and humans. So, what’re your thoughts on CBD? Would you try it on yourself or one of your pets? Leave us a comment and let us know your thoughts on CBD.
