Key West Florida Living
Skinny Over 40 is starting a Rebrand because we moved to Key West, Florida. We are going to be posting about Key West Florida Living. Curious about living in Key West, Florida? Or living on an island? We are going to show you how to believe in your dreams and make your life what you want it to be.
Key West Florida Living
We moved down to Key West, Florida a little over a week ago. The move itself consisted of packing up from West Palm Beach and driving down to the Keys. Let’s back up a bit and talk about what prompted us to move and how we could do it. Dave works fulltime as a Maintenance Supervisor in the residential maintenance field. With over 30 years experience, so his resume is pretty impressive. With that said, looking for work any place is a matter of finding a place we want to live and scoping out employment for him.
Key West does not pay the same as up North
When looking for work, don’t give up on the few places you here what their salary is. There are larger companies that will pay more. And don’t be afraid to ask for what you want. If you already have a job, which Dave did and a good one at that, we figured we had to go for it. We could not make less than what we were already making. Because well, the cost of living is a little bit higher than West Palm Beach. An average 1 bedroom apartment in Old Town is going to cost you around $2000.00. New Town around 1500.00 1 Bedroom 1 Bath. If you’re going out, there are plenty of great priced Happy Hours. Cheap meals and cheap drinks. Key West Florida Living is possible if you work on budgeting. We sold our car and have no more car insurance that saved us quite a lot of money! We will get around town with a golf cart and bikes. We also have learned the bus system that picks us up and brings us into Old Town for $2.00. This is a great way to get around town.
One of our favorite things to do is watch the sunset at the beach with a cold one in our hand. Mallory Square is also a great spot to watch the sunset and it is one big party with performers and vendors. Have a few drinks then hop on the bus to take us home.
Mallory Square has so much to offer tourists and locals. I like to ride my bike around the whole island and see new things every day.
We live in New Town where my husband works so it works out perfect for us. I can hop on my bike and be to the oceanside where there are many beaches. This area the weather is very much like the Carribean and the water is super calm. Barely a wave. The perfect area for snorkeling, kayaking and using a stand-up paddleboard. The island of Key West is only 4 miles long by 2 miles wide. The feeling we got when we hit Mile Marker 0 was incredible!
We love on the weekends hopping on our bikes and exploring with a 123 pack of beer. We biked down to South Beach sat on the pier and had a few beers after parking our bikes and walking down Duvall street with our beer poured into red solo cups. The preferred way to drink in town.
The beaches are calm and all located on the South side of the island. We are in the process of joining a gym, the prices average for a gym membership is around $75 per person. I was able to talk a large club near us down to $55 per person with automatic payments. As much as we enjoy having fun, we still eat clean and workout!
Well, I hope you enjoyed getting to learn a little bit about Island Life. We will be getting more detailed as we rebrand Skinny Over 40.
