How To Ease Aches and Pains
If you’re like most people, you probably have your share of aches and pains that seem to get a little worse every year. You might be wondering if there is anything to do to ease those aches and pains and bring yourself a little relief. There is indeed, so read on to discover some tips.
Rest
Sometimes the best thing you can do to ease aches and pains is to rest, especially if you’ve strained your muscles working or exercising. Take a break from whatever activity you’ve been pushing yourself to do, and let your body recover a bit. Use heat or ice, too, depending on the nature of the strain. If the chore must get done in a particular period of time, recruit someone to help so that you don’t have to strain further.
Exercise
It might sound contradictory, but sometimes the best way to ease aches and pains is to exercise. This does not, of course, refer to muscle strains or injuries, but rather to daily stiffness and soreness. Exercise can definitely help these. Start with some easy stretching to loosen up your muscles and joints. Then enter into a low-impact exercise session that might include walking, dancing, swimming, water aerobics or another activity that works your body without straining it. Gradually increase the duration of your exercise and the variety of your activities over time.
Posture
Some of your aches and pains may be caused by bad posture. Many people, maybe even you, tend to slouch and slump, but after a while, this can hurt. Therefore, be mindful of your posture, and make an effort to improve it. Do some research online, and look for illustrations that show proper posture. You’ll want to think about the straightness of your back, the position of your head and shoulders and the trajectory of your weight. Make good posture a habit, and you might find your aches and pains easing.
Braces
If you’ve been injured or are suffering from a chronic pain condition, you might try wearing a brace for extra support. Start with a less expensive brace from a grocery or discount store. If this doesn’t provide enough support, ask your doctor or chiropractor for a recommendation. Wear the brace during periods of activity, and keep it on even during rest periods if you feel like it eases the aches. You might want to remove it while you sleep at night, though, unless your doctor or chiropractor says otherwise.
Treatment
Finally, if your aches and pains are becoming severe and unmanageable, you should seek treatment. Your doctor may suggest imaging to pinpoint the problem or prescribe a stronger pain medication. You might also try pain management with a chiropractor to learn some long-term techniques and find relief. Don’t be afraid to follow advice from your doctor or chiropractor. At least give it a try even if you’re hesitant. You might just find that it works.
Aches and pains are a normal part of life, but if they begin to get in the way of your daily life, you should make an effort to ease them and get them under control.
