Cauliflower Crust Pizza
Cauliflower crust pizza has been on my radar for some time. You think, say what? Cauliflower Crust Pizza, say it isn’t so. I have seen this all over the internet and Pinterest and decided to dive in. Yes dive into to making my first Cauliflower Crust Pizza. Pizza is our favorite food. We like garbage pizza. I mean everything is added. If we go out for date night on a Friday we may get take out since I had to many cocktails to feel like cooking. But our favorite pizza is homemade.
Not the best picture with white on white. I washed and dried a whole head of Cauliflower and placed it in a food processor. Pulsed it a few times until it looks like rice. This turns out to be about 2 1/2 cups. The next thing we are going to do is steam our Cauliflower. I do not have a microwave I know, weird, right? Steam it for about 4 minutes until it is soft. Then you’re going to let it cool. Next we are going to wring out the water.
After ringing out the water I am going to start mixing in the cheese and egg.
I am using 1/4 cup of Parmesan cheese and a 1/4 a cup of mozzarella cheese. The additional cheese will be our topping. I am also adding in one egg beaten. A few pinches of sea salt and two tablespoons of Italian seasoning. Mix your ingredients. Now grab your parchment paper and line your baking sheet. Roll your Cauliflower crust pizza dough onto the pan and use your fingers to form your crust.
Look how pretty my Cauliflower Crust looks. The nice thing when making this crust is No Mess! I didn’t have crust stuck to my fingers or under my nails. Oh, I added crushed black pepper and rosemary too. Now we are going to bake it for about 8-12 minutes, depending on your oven until it is a light golden brown, from there we are going to top it with sauce and your ingredients. Then put it back in the oven and bake the vegetables and cheese until it is a beautiful golden brown. Here I added fennel seeds over the cheese.
We were drooling already. The crust came out a nice golden brown. The texture looks like it would hold all of our ingredients. My son was on his way over to visit so we were excited to share this pizza with him.. He is a health nut 🙂 We topped it with turkey sausage, turkey pepperoni, fresh tomatoes, red peppers, red sweet onions, mushrooms and banana peppers. We used an organic pizza sauce from Whole Foods and mozzarella cheese as our topping. Of course use whatever you like. We baked it an additional 12 minutes at 425 degrees.
Cauliflower crust pizza is a great substitute for a white or wheat flour pizza. It is chalk full of important vitamins as well.
